Police said a man approached the woman as she got out of her car near the loading dock of a store in the 13000 block of Lake City Way NE at approximately 4:23 p.m.

There's been a lot of talk about last week's Lake City shooting. Here's an update from the PI summarizing what happened.

About 3:40 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the southeast corner of Northeast 140th Street and 30th Avenue Northeast. The victim, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear, "was bleeding profusely from the mouth and had multiple fresh contusions on his arms and legs," Officer Charles Miller wrote in his report. "(The victim) was noticeably out of breath and made several incoherent staments as he laid down on the ground.

A car crashed into the side of a house at 120th and 35th Ave NE at around 10:45pm tonight. What sounded like a loud car accident outside my house ended up being somebody possibly trying to outrun the police and veering out of control up an embankment into the yard of a house. Witnesses on the scene said that a man stumbled out of the car after the crash and ran off into the neighborhood. Within a few minutes 8 police cars and a fire truck were on the scene. As I was leaving the accident, the K-9 unit arrived the crash and began search for the driver. I overheard one person from the house say they thought a backpack was thrown in the bushes. Police officers are searching throughout the surrounding neighbor for the driver.

Be careful driving on 35th between 115th and 125th right now because of the massive police presence. I'll post updates as I hear more.

UPDATE - details from the Seattle Police Department Blotter:

On July 3, at approximately 10:25 PM, North Precinct officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a...

Pinehurst Seattle posted this about some repeat car burglaries. Has anyone else been having trouble?

FYI. This is to let everyone know that my car was broken into late Sunday-early Monday 6/27-6/28. They broke the driver’s window, stole two new tents, several Lake City Library DVDs & several other small items of very little worth.

This is the 3rd time since February, 2010 that my car has been burgled. In February, several other cars along 117th Street & 22nd St. were also broken into. Each time this has occurred to others & myself, it was between the 25th & the end of the month.

At 4:30am this morning, Seattle Police responded to a car prowl report  in the 12300 block of 33rd Ave NE and ended up in a car chase down I-5.  Here are the details from the SPD Blotter:

As officers were arriving in the area, they observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the immediate area.  The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car, descibed as a dark colored Cadillac Deville 4 door, struck the patrol car and refused to stop.  Several other patrol cars were in the area and the suspect vehicle also struck another patrol car as it continued down Lake City Way NE onto Interstate 5 southbound.  The damage to the patrol cars was minor and none of the officers were injured.  Officers followed  the suspect vehicle until it got onto I-5, when officers backed off from following.  Officers have enough information on the suspect vehicle to follow up the investigation.

Monday night around 1am cops broke up a group of 40 or so men outside of the Lake City Bar and Grill (12725 and Lake City Way). Minutes later they were called back to the same spot after gun shots were fired. A 40 year old man with severe head injuries was rushed to Harborview. His injuries were most likely related to blunt trauma. Gun shots shattered the window of an SUV parked in the lot. You can read more details in the PI post here.

Later that night cops pulled over a car at 143rd and Lake City Way that matched descriptions from the scene of the crime. They located a pistol in the car. Tips about a suspect also led them to a hotel room on Aurora that turned up empty.

At 8am Tuesday morning, the scene was still bustling with cops. The parking lot of the Lake City Bar and Grill and the neighboring bank were still surrounded by yellow tape. While waiting for the bus I saw the SUV towed away.

Police are investigating a man accused of operating an illegal chop-shop for stolen bicycles out of a Lake City storage unit. Here's a clip from the story as reported by the Seattle P-I:

Utility workers on the roof of the storage facility noticed...a handful of people stripping bicycles in the vehicle bay...When officers got to the roughly 10-by-10-foot unit, they found it 'stacked floor-to-ceiling with disassembled bicycles (frames, wheels, accessories) and recognized them as mostly high-value and some specialized bikes'," North Precinct Detective Dain Jones wrote in an affidavit used to obtain a search warrant.

Enough plagiarism from me. Read the full story here.

Hear some commotion around 123rd and Lake City Way?

Last night around 10pm a SWAT team surrounded an apartment on the 12000 block of 31st Avenue NE following the assault of a male victim. After hours of negotiations, "irritants", and flashbangs; three children were rescued from the building but the suspect managed to escape.

Seattle Crime was on site for the play by play. Check out the SPD Blotter for more details.

After continued attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful, the SWAT team entered and searched the apartment and determined that the suspect was not there.  All indications are that the suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of the initial responding officers.  The suspect, an adult male in his 30’s, remains at large.  The identity of the suspect is known and officers are currently looking for him.

The mother and the two children that reside in the apartment have returned inside safe and sound.  The (second)...

Although crime and shootings are nothing new in Lake City, it is rare that 2 incidents happen in the same block in one week.

Last night there was a suicide shooting at NE 137th and 30th. In general it's not PC to publicize suicides in order to avoid copycats. But, when there's a shooting next door, it's reassuring to know the truth about what happened.

Thanks to Casey McNerthney from the Pi for the full story and the phone number for the 24-hour suicide crisis clinic hot line (1-866-4CRISIS).

Less than a week ago, on the same block, a man was arrested for beating his landlord. Sean Kelley, a 22 year old with a juvenile criminal history, allegedly attacked the landlord after he was asked to turn down his music. The landlord was taken to Northwest Hospital with extensive facial damage and visual impairment. Sean Kelley was released on Monday after he posted his bail of $10,000. Casey McNerthney has the full story here.

When I moved to the Lake City neigbhorhood in late February, there soon after was a crime meeting at the library.  Loads of people showed up with tons of enthusiasm about doing something to curb the crime.  Was there ever a follow up to this?  Did I miss something?  I was really hoping that something would take flight and there would be some more meetings, some crime watch groups, etc.  I really like the Lake City neighborhood, and hope for its future.

Two of four people from this photo were arrested in connection with recent robberies. SeattlePI reports

One of two persons arrested Tuesday night in connection with a string of robberies around Seattle is a felon who had been released from King County Jail in April after being convicted in a third-degree theft case.

The 23-year-old was credited with 52 days served in King County Jail in that case, but early Wednesday morning, he was booked back into the jail in connection with three other, recent robberies and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Police also arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with three of the recent robberies.

Police are still looking for two more suspects -- believed to be armed and dangerous - in what may be a string of nearly a dozen robberies.

Get the rest of the details are here in this SeattlePI article.

If you haven't heard North Seattle's on the look out for two men. It's thought that they are behind the robberies that happened last week in Pinehurst, Magnolia, and Greenlake. The photos are of two men inside a convenience store on Lake City. Although they didn't rob the store, it's thought that they've participated in as many as eight robberies in the past few weeks. They're also suspect for beating a man at Lake City Way and 107th before they stopped into a store where these pictures were taken.

This warning about door to door magazine scammers  from PinehurstCommunity.

/
"I just had a door to door magazine salesperson come to my door trying to sell me a magazine subscription. He claimed to be with Heritage Marketing. He told me that he lived in the neighborhood. I asked him where and he pointed to the ______'s house and said his father told him that I was a good neighbor to ask for help with his attempt to raise funds to travel to London to recreate the first four episodes of Faulty Towers with John Cleese (???). I asked what his father's name was and he said that he was not allowed to tell me. I pushed it a little further and he got irate with me and left. So, I put my shoes on and followed him up the street. I asked him some more questions to see if he would provide his identity. No go. I explained to him that he had just lied to me and that misrepresenting himself like that is not ok. He claimed to be a student at WSU, that he lived in Bellevue, and that he was a communications major. I did a quick search on line on Heritage Marketing and two scam stories popped up that are nearly identical to my experience with this guy. I called the police. They are looking for him right now.
If you see this guy, call the police. He is about 20, 5-11, roughly 180 pounds, blue eyes, black hair, blue t shirt with a screenprinted graphic, beige cargo shorts, and white basketball shoes. He is carrying a black folder with transaction slips for Heritage Marketing as well as three laminated cards - two that show the magazines available, and one that has the names of local veterans that will supposedly vouch for him."

Another incident that occurred near Safeway on 15th and 125th.

"Friday afternoon I had a young lady knocking at my door with a similar magazine subscription story.  She was selling magazine subscriptions for the troops!  The least expensive was $48.00 and I believe she said 80% of the proceeds would go toward her art study in Puerto Vallarta.  And, I could make a cash donation if I did not want to purchase a magazine subscription.

She was quite good and I almost fell for it!!  Unfortunately we have to be so careful these days.  We must always be aware and alert to not buy into these tricky scams!!"

Local business owners, the Colacurcios, face up to 20 years in prison if they are found guilty on all 15 accounts.

Frank Colacurcio Jr and Sr, owners of Ricks as well as Sugars, Honey's in Everett, and Fox's in Tacoma, face charges for promoting prostitution in their strip clubs. The business treated them well - allegedly they made close to 25 million dollars in the past four years. Here's some PI video footage from the indictement.

During the indictement, one PI reporter decided to go straight to the source. Instead of waiting outside a court room, he headed to Ricks hoping to the straight story from the dancers. He didn't get to far. Shortly after he sat down, one dancer said " You look like you're working".

The Colacurcios are no strangers to a court rooms. Only 6 years ago they pleaded guilty in the infamous Stripergate scandal. You'd think Frank Sr, age 92, would see his end in sight and slow down a bit.

The bad and the ugly this week in Lake City.

Laser pointers directed at a 737 were traced back to the North Seattle. SPD patrolled 35th near Nathan Hale looking for the meddling misfits.

Remember this SWAT incident a few weeks ago? The suspected was arrested in the international district after evading police for about a week.

This from the PI.

"The Seattle Police SWAT team responded to a report of an armed man barricaded in the Meadowbrook View Apartments near the intersection of NE 113th Street and Lake City Way NE about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Picture

Police guide residents out of a neighboring apartment building during the standoff at the Meadowbrook View apartments. But after a lengthy standoff, officers discovered there was nobody inside.

The incident originated as an assault call. Before the standoff started, a female victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with multiple cuts to her face, police spokesman Jeff Kappel said. Her condition was unknown.

About 7:45 p.m., Kappel said police thought the suspect was alone inside the apartment.

About 10 p.m., the SWAT team entered the unit only to find it empty and pulled off the scene. Several police units are actively searching for the suspect, Kappel said. He is considered armed and dangerous."

These two crime incidents showed up on the SPD blotter.

Convenience store harassment

"On June 3rd, at approximately 3:30 a.m.,  North Precinct officers were called to a convenience store in the 12300 Block of 15th Avenue NE for a report of two men harassing the clerk and causing property damage.  The two suspects, both 20, had been loitering and harassing customers and the clerk.  They were told to leave several times.  When the clerk finally called 911 to ask for assistance, the men began yelling racial epithets at the clerk and then proceeded to kick and break a large glass window on the storefront, causing significant damage.  The officers arrived and arrested the two suspects without incident.  They were later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Malicious Harassment and Investigation of Malicious Mischief"

Early afternoon yesterday, my coworkers son was robbed by gun point at a bus stop in Lake City. The man, a black man wearing a black hoodie, approached him from behind and held a gun to his side and asked him to give him his backpack. The victim, in his mid twenties, was standing alone at the bus stop when this occurred. He was on his way to pay his rent and carrying a large amount of cash. It's not likely he was targeted because he did not stop by the bank on the way to the bus stop.
