Here we go again: one future prospect for Rick's

The P-I has reported that "...Bob Davis, the man who most recently operated Jiggles strip club in the University District and also tried to open a strip club on Aurora Avenue North, has put in an application with the city to operate at the former Rick's site in Lake City.

"But Davis, or another man who has filed a separate application to open a strip club there, must first get control of the property, which is being auctioned at 2 p.m. June 29. Davis expects there will be several people bidding on the property later this month – and he expects the city to fight his attempt to open a strip club."

Can someone who does not want to run a strip club please buy this building? Please?

Well, crap.
Who should we petition to fight this?

There is nothing you can do.
Unless you can find somebody to outbid these guys. Lets face it, these kinds of places are in every city. Look at Portland, they are everywhere. Has their city gone to hell in a handbasket? No. My guess is that this street won't be able to support 3 strip clubs for too long. Think of it this way, if people are thinking of putting two strip clubs in, the economy can't be doing all that bad, right? :)

There has to be something.
I just can't be that complacent. There must be something that can be done.

We can try/contacts
It can't hurt to send an email to a few key decision makers in the city, just to let them know how we feel about the issue. If no one ever says anything, they just think no one cares about poor little Lake City.

Italian Spaghetti House also has uncertain Future
Seattle Times piece from a couple weeks ago about some of the restaurants that have failed since the recession, including the Italian Spaghetti House and Pizzeria on Lake City Way:

Music venue!!
Living about two blocks away from Rick's as the crow flies, I can't help but echo the sentiment that we can't just stand by and do nothing! Why can't some wealthy venture capitalist see this as an opportunity to do something different with a club space? We have plenty of strip clubs up here and few music venues. Do something different, please!!

Did you see the banners?
Sure enough, Rick's is going to be a "Dream Girls."

Anger directed toward:
- idiots who think that a strip club in Lake City has the same impact as a strip club in downtown Portland
- Seattle, for C1-40 zoning
- the crappy economy, for ensuring that this property will not pencil out as anything except what it already is

A big opportunity to transform the neighborhood has been lost. At least we can look back in fondness on this short time of Lake City without Rick's.
